ENTER THE WORLD OF ASHTANGA YOGA
Traditional Ashtanga Yoga uses a teaching method that is popularly known as Mysore style (Mysore is the city in India where KPJAYI, the traditional teaching institute of Ashtanga Yoga is located). This style of teaching is totally personalized and each student learns at the rate that their memory and their body allow.
Movement
We practice a sequence of postures in constant movement.
Breathing
The most important thing about the practice is learning to breathe.
Flexibility
We create space for our body to gradually open up.
Strength
Little by little we develop strength at a muscular level.
Concentration
Practice teaches us to focus attention through drishti. (where we focus the gaze).
Calm
We learn to quiet the mind through dynamic meditation.
PHILOSOPHY
Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient Yoga system that comes from the Yoga Korunta, a text transmitted to Sri T. Krishnamacharya in the early 1900’s by his Guru, who later transmitted to Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois (1927) during his studies with Krishnamacharya and which is still alive by the guidance of Sharath Jois, Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois’ grandson (KPJAYI) in Mysore (India).
Main aspects
Vinyasa: The combination of asanas with movement and breathing makes the blood circulate around all the joints and internal organs, eliminating impurities through sweat. Once the body is purified, it is possible to purify the nervous system and sense organs.
Tristhana: The three fields of attention or action that are carried out together:
1.- The posture.
2.- Breathing.
3.- The gaze.
